Data Collection
What ways can respondents answer — do they need a smartphone?
No. Depending on what a deployment enables, respondents can answer by Phone Call (any basic mobile number), WhatsApp (voice notes or typed chat), an SMS text fallback for feature phones with no data plan, a Web Platform link, or the offline-first Mobile Enumerator App used by field workers in areas with no network coverage. Phone, WhatsApp and SMS need a connected telephony provider. A respondent only needs whichever enabled channel is easiest for them.
What happens in villages with no phone network?
Field enumerators use the offline Mobile Application: responses are recorded and saved on the device with no connectivity, and are uploaded when the device is back online and the app synchronizes. An interrupted upload resumes rather than restarting, and a record sent twice is not counted twice.
What languages does it understand?
It depends on what you need the language for. Answering in writing, answering by voice, transcription, translation, analysis and reporting each have their own status for each language, and the language capabilities page shows them. No accuracy rate is claimed for any language.
Safety & Consent
Do respondents know they're being recorded?
Where a spoken notice is approved for the respondent's language, it opens the interview and explains what is collected, why, and that they can stop at any point. Consent is recorded with the session as granted, declined or unknown.
What if a respondent says something distressing?
Analysis assigns every response a sentiment label, and that label can be "distressed". A project can be configured so responses carrying it are sent for human review. The label is an indicator for your safeguarding team — it is not an automatic alert, and it is not a clinical judgment. Responsibility for safeguarding action stays with trained people. See our Safeguarding page for details.
Who can see respondent data?
Access is role-based and permission-checked. Each person's role, assigned by their organization, decides which data and actions they can reach.
Legal & Regulatory
Is this legal to use in Tanzania?
Implementations are designed to support obligations under Tanzania's Personal Data Protection Act, No. 11 of 2022: consent logging, data minimization and encryption are part of the platform. Controller and processor roles, transfer safeguards and any required registrations must be confirmed for your organization and project.
Do I need COSTECH or NBS approval to use this?
It depends on your study type. Scientific research, national studies, and foreign-funded research often need COSTECH clearance; studies producing official statistics may need NBS review. At project setup, VoiceInsights Africa walks you through a compliance checklist to help identify what your specific study likely needs — see our Safeguarding & Compliance page.
Who owns the data we collect?
You do. Your organization owns every response, transcript and report generated through your account. VoiceInsights Africa does not sell client data. Where third-party subprocessors are used to deliver the service, they are listed on our subprocessors page together with the current governance status.
Getting Started
How quickly can we launch a project?
It depends on the study and the channels it needs. A web-link or offline-app study can be set up from your workspace once your account is provisioned; phone, WhatsApp and SMS first need a connected telephony provider. We agree a realistic timeline during scoping rather than promising one here.
How is pricing structured?
Fees, service periods and renewal terms are defined in the tailored proposal or applicable enterprise agreement. See Pricing or request a demonstration to discuss scope.
Can we try it before committing?
Yes — request a demo and we'll walk through a live pilot on your own survey questions before any commercial discussion.
